Via 135
I recently tried to use my Via 135 and to my surprise it showed 'No maps found'

I eventually downloaded my maps again using MyDrive Connect

My question is, can I save the current map directly to my computer as presumably it won't be available on the web site forever?

In fact, you should be able to download the map again (using MyDrive) once you log in. Normally, clearing the cache in the desktop's settings results in the map being offered up again.

To be clear, to clear the map from your 'cache', it is necessary to clear the MyDrive cache, not the web browser cache. Using the little systray icon, it's the little gear, "Settings" / "Cache" / "Empty the cache". However, you may well find that leaving it where it is provides some time relief .. see below.

Your map will be stored in the MyDrive cache if you have selected "Cache large content items..." in which case, if it disappears again, you won't have to download it again if it is still current.

Unless you are in a situation where there is a need to remove it, it's not a bad idea to leave MyDrive cached items alone. The exception is if you have a map subscription where it is 100% assured that replacements will be forthcoming. Having no map on device or in cache can, sometimes, result in a call to tech support to have the map pushed to you again.

Many thanks for your advice. I shall keep your comments incase I have the same trouble again.

This is part of my problem: the computer said "new maps for spring". Based on previous problems with updating, I deselected all except the quick fix (which I cannot deselect) and installed that. Then I tried the other two updates in size order - 1.9Mb for speed cameras then 2.9Gb for new maps. 1.9Mb speed camers loaded then there were still two updates left...... 2Mb for speed cameras then 2.9Gb for Maps. Uploaded the speed cameras with the usual problems - halfway through "device not responding". As usual I try a different USB port (I have three to choose from) and it resumes. After an hour or so (and I am on a fast fibre cable) it decides it is loaded but there is only 2.8Gb space left on my device (Via 135) and I need 2.9Gb..... It started to load, got to about 14% then started again. Got to 17% then started again. Then my device didn't respond. Then it got up to 20% and re-started. Then 14%, then... need I go on? Also, almost every time I plug my unit into the car it should boot up. Mostly, these days, it doesn't so I press the start button and get the jungle drums.... I am running an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop with windows 7 Home, regular microsoft updates, Norton antivirus. Any help would be appreciated as currently I have a sat nav with no maps.

Well it looks as if the basic problem is that you are trying to stuff 10 lbs of potatoes into a 5 lbs bag.
In other words, unless there are zoned maps available for your device, you must try to get rid of some items that are in the memory.

The first step is to find out what is there and then let's see if something is superfluous to your operations and can be deleted.

Connect to MyDrive and click on "My Content" at the top.
Now go down to the bottom of that web page and see what items are shown.

It would be best if you could make a PC screen print of that part and then attach it to your reply by clicking the (Upload a File) at the bottom of the composition window.

dhn - thanks - I've not looked at the links yet but I have found the slot - I have had the unit for several years and never knew that!
Arno, thanks to you to - I did come across the my content and found "Maps" (1 item) and "Speed Cameras" (14 items).
I will add a micro sd card, is there a limit on the size or can I go for 8 or 16 Gb? Do I need all 14 items for the speed cameras? I couldn't find a way of separating them.

Either 8 or 16 will do. Do not get a 4 gb card and 32 is too much. I'd probably get the 16 gb card, class 10 for speed, well known brand (SanDisk, for example) and let the unit format it in its own format.

Thanks again, I tried Chrome, and a 16Gb card. The card worked but Chrome didn't, it just hung. I went back to Firefox and it worked first time. I do keep getting "Device Disconnected" and I wonder if my USB cable (original TomTom with angled end) is past its sell-by date. Also, I find that every time I go to My TomTom and log in, I have to download the connection software. Where does it go to?
Anyway, going away for the weekend with a newly updated unit, no computer so fingers crossed all is in order. Thanks again for the support.

1) USB cable.
I used a straight micro USB cable when I had a Via 1535. If careful there is no problem inserting it. Removing takes a bit more attention. You don't want to tug on the wire. I found it best to lightly push my thumb nail between the device and the plug and it pops right out.

2) MyDrive Connect connection software.
Do you have the MyDrive Connect Icon in the system tray?

That's no good.
Go to this page

and download the MyDrive Connect software for your computer OS, then install it.

When finished, there should be a grey/white icon in your Notification tray like the one at the bottom left.
If there is a green down arrow on it, as in mine, that is a notification that some software wants to be installed.
Once you tap that iconthe pop up screen to the right will show.
Once you connect the USB the orange exclamation mark and 'Not connected' will changer to a green check mark and display 'Connected'.
If connected or not and you click anywhere on that pop up a new MyDirect tab will open in Firefox and ask you to log in. Once done you'll see what is available (that part you know already).

You can close that Firefox tab any time (except while downloading or installing) because next time you need it you just click the tray icon.

When you have time you should right click on the Settings icon in the pop up and see what is there. If there is anything you are not sure about, just ask.

Thanks again everyone. I do have this icon, but it tends to tuck itself away behind a little up arrow at the bottom right hand of the task bar (unused icons). I bring it out when I need to use it, but it doesn't stop the computer from thinking that the software needs to be downloaded sometimes at the beginning of the session, sometimes part way through (where you can download it again and again and again and it still doesn't see it.).
