Using Ipod cable for audio In

Is it possible to use the ipod cable as an audio in to a TT730, without having an ipod connected?

The reason that I am asking is that with the Ipod connected the ipos/TT serial connection sounds bleed through to the audio, so I want to still be able to feed the audio in, without using the ipod control signals.

I believe the tt only recognizes the ipod interface via the cable. If your music is in mp3 format, you could put them on an SD card and play them directly off the TT.
