We've had our TomTom One for a few years now, and it's getting a bit long in the tooth - so it's time to upgrade :)... where else to come other than TTF .

I'm based in the UK and I'm looking for a 5" screen, speed camera database, W. Europe maps (perhaps + USA), something that qualifies for lifetime map updates and comes with live traffic.

The 825 and 1005 seem to tick these boxes, but I've been leaning toward the 825 (as it's cheaper!).

As I don't do lots of long journeys, I could quite happily skip the live traffic updates (but I'd quite like to see how useful it is) - so may drop down to something like the Via 135 Europe edition.

Any thoughts would be most welcome :)

Thanks, I'll take a look at that specs link and see if anything ticks all the boxes :).

For a 'limited time only', I'd be sure you pick one that includes this! Not sure how long the promotion lasts, but be sure you're in under the wire.

We know that any 825 will come with a uSD slot. There seems to be some confusion over which 1005 models come with the uSD slot and which don't. That said, if you get the Europe version, that will have 4GB internal memory. How much other 'stuff' would you be likely to add?

The other big difference is in the mount. The "Flip mount" on the 825 isn't my favorite, and I've heard a lot of nice comments about the 1005's "Easy click" magnetic mount, but the 825 can be installed anywhere with a standard micro-USB connector. Hmmm...

It looks like the map offer runs until Christmas, so I should be able to get one in plenty of time (hopefully within the next week or two). :)

I'm unlikely to add much extra to the unit, although there's the possibility of adding extra maps (for example, NY or CA states) if we get the Euro version.

I'm leaning toward the 1005 from what I've read, so I'll take a look and see if there are any good offers on at the moment.

The current system should allow you to swap off the Europe map and install the North American map and then swap them back later, so unless you had some need to keep them all loaded concurrently, the lack of the uSD card won't cause you any problems on that count. Still, there's a good chance that the 1005 you buy will have one anyway - seems most, but not all, have them - in case you want to get crazy with the unit later.

Hi.. My only thought would be if you can get on OK with the "Easyport" mount of the 825.
I find them incredibly annoying to remove and replace every time I nip out of the car for a minute or so.

With the "proper" mount of the Go1005, I can just slip it in my pocket while I'm in a shop or paying for petrol.

Thanks guys, I'm off to take a peek at the 1005 tonight :)
