Via 53
I have a TomTom Via 53, which suggested 2 updates.
I've done these in the past without much of a problem.
Yesterday around 6pm I started the update, and it was still running this morning at 11am at 50%.
Unfortunately it must have absorbed all my bandwidth as a Zoom call would not populate the participant images.
Consequently, I stopped the tom-tom update and Zoom immediately behaved as it should.
It now seems to want me to "add a map" of 8+ Gb for Europe.
I am reluctant to re-start this without knowing how long its going to take

It gave up after another 10 hours, giving a red battery symbol.
Interestingly, when I plugged it into a mobile phone power source (I was previously using the usb outlet from my router) it downloaded within 2 hours.
So, it was nothing to do with download speed, though it did block my Zoom call, it was all about power and battery state

The output power of a USB port is not the same as that of a phone charger.

The output power of a router is 500 MB. The output power of a modern phone charger is 2/2.4 A. See more on some phone chargers.

To clarify -- the typical current provided by a computer USB port or an automotive data USB port is 500mA (milliamps, not megabytes!), which Willy correctly identifies as insufficient to operate the device. Your Via 53, with screen on and bright, can take closer to 1A (1000mA) of current to operate. For that reason, you'll want to have it hooked up to a 'mains' charger (minimum 1A, and more is better) when using it for a longer period outside of your vehicle.
