Update GO 500 (4D00.500)

I have just bought a used Tomtom GO 500 (4D00.500). I believe it is an older model as it is quite chunky and the screen is rather small compared to the new ones at Halfords. Is it possible to update it for free? i.e does it support lifetime updates? Thanks

Unfortunately, TomTom has reused the GO 500 name after many years. But it sounds as though you may have a very old (2005) model. I expect your serial number starts with the characters "M3".

No new firmware has been released for that model in some years. No free lifetime maps - that wasn't introduced until much later - though for a price, you could update the map, but given the availability of better units with lifetime maps, it really isn't worth it.
