TT One 30 series no maps found

I have a TT One (30 series) 125 which I bought new with the Central and Eastern Europe map. A few months ago I bought a North America map as I was traveling there. I backed up my unit and saved my Central Europe map as my unit can only hold one at a time, then switched to the North America map. No problems.

Now I am back in Europe and have switched maps back, but keep getting the error message No maps found!

I have followed the instructions on the Tom Tom site and many others I found in this forum, but still no luck. When the TT is connected to my computer I can see that the correct map is there, but it won't work.

Please help. I've already spent hours trying to fix this.

Welcome to TTF.

Well, basic questions to ask.......

1. How did you move off the European map? Using Explorer (I hope)?

2. Have you tried to go to the option Manage Maps--Switch map?

3. Have you tried resetting the unit (holding the power button about 20 seconds)?

4. When connected to Home, Manage my Device, what does it show for maps in Unit and On Computer?

Thanks for the reply.

1. I switched off my European map using Home. Unfortunately I did not know at that time it was better to use explorer.

2. Yes I have tried to use the Manage Maps/ Switch maps, but still told no maps found.

3. Yes I have tried resetting the machine by holding down the power button and have also tried the TT Clear Flash program.

4. It shows the Central Europe map in both places. I can even navigate on the one on the unit through Home.

I have also tried to unzip the original download of the European map onto the unit through Explorer. the map is on the unit; it just appears to be either blocked or somehow corrupted.

Use Explorer to look at the contents of the map folder on your unit. Is there a file in it with an extension of meta.dct???

I need to ask.......

The maps you have ARE legitimate and obtained from TomTom?

Try this:
1. Make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents.
2. Use Explorer to remove all the loose files in the root of the unit, NO folders or their contents.
3. Connect to Home and download the offered application.
4. disconnect the unit from Home, using the Device Disconnect icon.

Any better?

Yes, my maps are legitimate and bought from Tom Tom. The first one (central europe) was a free download when I bought the unit last January. The second one (north america) I bought in July. I am trying to reinstall the central europe.

Ok, I followed your instructions and am still getting the no maps found screen. When I tried to delete the loose files there were a number of random files it would not let me delete named r, f, ... some of them are large, some small. It would not let me delete them as it said it could not find them, though it showed them.

I did successfully reinstall the application and can still view and operate the map on the unit through Home. But still the no maps found message when I disconnect.

Thanks in advance.

Well, try this....

Connect your unit to the computer. Don't start Home.

Now:

Start-->Run-->cmd

In the box that appears, type chkdsk x: /f where x: represents the drive associated with your unit.

Still no maps found error message.

Here is the script from what occurred when I ran the command:

C:\Users\AIA>chkdsk f: /f

I presume you made the Explorer backup earlier.

Try formatting the unit again. don't use quickformat and then restore the backup. See if that helps.

If not, download and run (3 times) the Clear flash tool found here

Can you tell me how to reformat the unit? Is that what I did here?

Try this:
1. Make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents.
2. Use Explorer to remove all the loose files in the root of the unit, NO folders or their contents.
3. Connect to Home and download the offered application.
4. disconnect the unit from Home, using the Device Disconnect icon.

Make sure you do have the Explorer backup.

Then with the unit connected to the computer, using Windows Explorer:

1. Click on My Computer in the left pane.
2. Right click on the drive representing the tomtom unit.
3. In the menu that appears, select Format. Don't use quickformat. You want fat32 if it asks.
4. Restore your backup

Also remember to try the Clear Flash mentioned tool in the previous post.

Bingo! That did it! Thank you so much! I'm not sure if you do this because it is your job, or just because you enjoy helping people, but either way I am very grateful for your help. Thanks!

You are welcome.

I'm just a user of a TomTom, the same as my fellow moderators and all other members here. We just try to help each other......
