Treo 650 with Nav 5

Question: how can I stop the treo 650 from trying to connect to sprint each time I run Tomtom Navigation 5 on my Treo 650? Am using phone for TT5 and other non-internet related programs and find this a battery life issue.
Many thanks for any help.
