Transferring Home from one computer to another

My desktop is old! I would like to put Home on my laptop. Do I have to do anything special to transfer home over to my laptop? Do I need to transfer files or just back them up?
 
As the backup is the most important collection of files I would transfer a day 01 backup to the new computer but not bother with anything else - Mike
