I've just purchased a TomTom Go 910. In looking at the Accessories booklet and the User Guide, I see mentions of an RDS-TMC antenna. I can't seem to find the antenna for sale on the TomTom web site. Is this not available in the U.S.?

Corect. RDS-TMC it's available only in some state in Europa, not everywhere. For US, you need to use mobile phone.

It does look like RDS-TMC is coming soon to the US though.

Judging from the comments to that article it seems that the service exists, the software is ready, all we need is the antenna, and that should be for sale soon.

TMC has been ready in the States. Garmin units have it. If you search the forum, one member compares their Garmin TMC traffic to to the TomTom's Traffic service.
