Traffic in Chicago?

I now have a working 340TM. But there's something about the traffic receiver I don't get: I live 40 miles outside of Chicago. When I'm going from home into the city, the receiver doesn't start picking up traffic until I'm about 5 miles from the center of the city. However, on the way out of the city, it holds onto a signal until I'm about 15 miles from home. The green circle goes to 3/4 after about 20 miles. So there's about a 30 miles difference between when it first picks up a signal, and when it loses it. Any idea why that is, and is there any kind of p=booster that will strengthen the signal?

The traffic chip or whatever in the 'egg' on the charger is fairly robust but ensure it is lying in as clear an area on your dash as possible.

May help.
