our tom tom xxl has started to not accept a full post code when we type in the first part it brings up a list of every street in that area rather than going to the full postcode for example when entering e175bp it only accepts the e17 and shows every street in walthamstow
this has only just started its yes youve guessed it 13 months old

Sounds like you've just lost your "zip" folder or the files inside it.

It's a common problem, see our instructions on fixing it from another topic only today.... here

MOD EDIT: These instructions are out of date, see post #2

many thanks to all ive solved this problem below is the solution
STEP 1 - Download the post code files

- Please download the files by clicking on this link and saving them to your desktop:-
http://www.tomtom.com/updates/zipcodes/Map_875/zip.zip
STEP 2 - Copy the post code files

- Once this file has downloaded, it will be on your desktop, or in whatever location you downloaded them to.
- Double click on it. A window will open with four files in it.
- Now copy the files to your clipboard as per the below instructions:-

In Windows:
• Press and hold the 'Ctrl' button on your keyboard, and then press 'A'. This will highlight all the files
• Again, press and hold the 'Ctrl' button on your keyboard, and then the letter 'C'. This will copy the files to your clipboard, however, you will not see anything happen.

On a Mac:
• Press and hold the command key on your keyboard, and then press 'A'. This will highlight all the files. (the command key has a little apple on it, or a symbol that looks like a square with circles on its edges)
• Again, press and hold the command key on your keyboard, and then the letter 'C'. This will copy the files to your clipboard, however, you will not see anything happen.

STEP 3 - Install the post code files to your device

- Connect your device to your computer and turn it on
- Go into your device and paste the files into the zip folder as per the below instructions:-

In Windows:
• Go to 'Start > (My) Computer'
• Double click on the TomTom drive
• On the top left hand, click on 'File > New > Folder', and call the folder 'zip', i.e. without the quotation marks, all lower case.
• Double click into this folder, press and hold the 'Ctrl' button on your keyboard, and then press 'V'. This will paste the files into the folder

On a Mac:
• Your TomTom drive will be on your desktop. Double click into the drive
• On the Finder bar in the top left hand corner, select 'File > New Folder'
• Call the folder 'zip', i.e. without the quotation marks, all lower case.
• Double click into this folder, press and hold the command key on your keyboard, and then press 'V'. This will paste the files into the folder

Once the files have copied across, please switch off your device. Then disconnect it from your computer and then switch it back on

The post code search will now be working on your device.

You may also find the link useful http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9852/kw/postcode to download and install postcode files on your device.

That's NOT a good solution!

Following those OLD instructions will give you ANCIENT v875 postcodes. The latest are v910.

If you had followed my link in post #2, the other topic had download links for the latest version and some installation instructions.
