Problem: Nothing happens whenever I run the setup for TomTom Home in Windows XP.
Solution: You need to have Microsoft .Net Framework installed before you run TomTom Home Setup.
Download it from here http://www.microsoft.com/NET

I went to the provided link, downloaded the .NET framework installer, ran the installation which took ages to complete, had to reboot and it didn't change a thing !.

Tomtom home latest installer still doesn't do a thing when I execute it, and now I have a nice pile of crap installed. This dotnet framework installed several components and is a pain to remove !

_edit_

here is the actual solution that worked for me: get an older version of tomtom home that will install, install it and let it update itself.

I tried several versions until I found one that worked, in my case it was: http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/application/releases/v2_3_1_92_win.exe

Here's the list of older version that you can try, just replace the version in the previous link by the number of the version you want.

Actually, you'll undoubtedly find that 'pile of crap' handy in the future. TomTom Home isn't the only application that will require that *.net be installed, and you'll run across them sooner or later.

Meanwhile, I'd take dhn's advice and do the full wipe/clean/nuke/erase job on Home with Revo. You wouldn't be the first to have remnants of prior versions messing about with a current version and making it operate badly or not at all.

A solution for TOMTOM HOME installation problem

DHN and BUGMENOT2011 together have a great solution.

Background: I just spent over 2 1/2 hours trying to install my OEM disc on a second home PC using Vista OS. It just would not work. It wouldn't recognize the device on a USB port. In short, no functionality.
So, here's what worked...first time around.:
1) I downloaded the REVO uninstaller from CNET as listed in post above.

This is a really good uninstaller, among other things. See the review at CNET

Once downloaded, go ahead and uninstall all TOMTOM traces and elements...just follow the clearly outlined steps presented to you.

2) Next, I downloaded a fresh copy of TOMTOM from link provided by BUGMENOT2011 above.

After installing, connect your device to your PC and select update TOMTOM to get the latest maps, etc.

3) It took about 15 minutes for the whole thing. Uninstalled all the junk and placed a fresh, valid copy with update of TOMTOM HOME on my CPU. I kept my Symantic/Norton Internet Security running throughout without a problem/glitch.
Thank you very much DHN and BUGMENOT2011 !!!!
:)
