TomTom Model(s)
premium x 6 inch
hi guys

hope everyone is ok.

had this problem few days now after updating it.

firstly it was stuck on recovery mode so i did the recovery procedure. on mydrive it got up to 100% then restarted and went back to the recovery mode( pc with tomtom image) been doing that for several hours so gave up. next day i switched it on (just hoping it fixed itself somehow) and now its just white screen, nothing else.

got in touch with tomtom headquarters and they told me it is still under warranty from my serial number, they told me they would take care of the repair bills and that i wouldnt have to pay a thing, problem is i would ahve to wait over 2 weeks to get it back. i use my tomtom everyday and i cant afford another one.

i still kept trying to connect to my drive then all of a sudden 2 windows popped up and on each window it said this drive needed formatting which i stupidly clicked on ok. so it looks like i do need to somehow find the firmware and install it on the tomtom manually.

i was wondering if there is a backup or the operating system which i can download to get this my tomtom up and running again.

many thanks guys

The recovery process is what should restore a good OS to your device.
The file system is closed for user access, so you have no mechanism to reload another OS manually. That went away (sadly) a couple of generations ago.

many thanks for the reply

i made the mistake of formatting the tomtom internal memory so i do not have anything on the tomtom, not start up beep, no start up tomtom logo, no nothing, just white screen.

you saying there is no other way to repair my tomtom myself?

There's no way to 'format the internal memory' of a current generation device, at least not with any tools that you would have at your disposal. The file system, even it were visible, and it's not, wouldn't be recognized by Windows (or a Mac either, for that matter), so any attempt to format would be ineffective. At best/worst, you could format the uSD card, if you have one installed.

Please advise what you actually did, and perhaps we can 'undo' it, but if recovery mode isn't working, it's probably going to have to go back to TomTom for warranty work.

when i first connected tomtom to pc, it used to let me connect to mydrive, then one day the recovery mode showed up while i was in my car so i took it in and tried connecting to pc, it started doing the restore procedure. it restarted when it got to 100 but it kept going back to the recovery procedure image. i kept disconnect it and connecting it then all of a sudden, 2 windows popped up saying that this drive needed formatting so i clicked ok/format. there was no files showing at all, just a little window asking to format.

i have already did the data recovery but some came back corrupted so that is no good.

Afraid it's off to TomTom, then. Glad to hear it is still under warranty. Have never heard of a unit that behaved this way!

thank you, although it is still under warranty, tomtom asked for proof of purchase which i do not have. dont really know what to do now.

How was it paid for? Contact the seller for a duplicate invoice.
i bought it on ebay 2nd hand, i have asked him for receipt twice now but no answer.

i am guessing he has thrown it away.
