tomtom one xl
hello

i tried to update my tomtom tonight by downloading the new maps , i plugged mine in and deleted the folder names UK AND IRELAND and tried to install the news ones but now everytime i restart it its says my device cannot use these maps and select maps and i cannot get past it

could someone tell me where i can get the maps from to make this work again as no matter what i try nothing is happening

thanks

i have tried using tomtom home and also the MY DRIVE software but it says no updates available but im thinking that because i dont have any maps installed for it to check :(

You need Home for that model. Why would you delete the map folder from your device??!!

When you connect to Home-->Manage my device-->Items on device, maps. What shows?

Items on computer-->maps. What shows there?

If you PC deleted those to the Recycle bin, restore them before doing anything else.
Then make a Explorer back up of that drive letter to a new folder.
Then answer dhn's questions.

hiya and thanks for the replys

what happened is my mrs father asked me to update his tomtom .. i downloaded the maps from a site and extracted them which left me with a folder called uk and ireland maps

so what i did was plugged the satnav unit into my pc and it opened up the memory card which is fixed inside the unit and in there was a folder labelled uk and ireland so i just right clicked and deleted that one and then just dragged the new one over but when it had been transferred it said these are are not suitable ...

i then looked into it and see i need tomtom home installing , did that and run it and it installed all newest firmware except no maps were found on the device :(

so all i am trying to do is find a complete file were i can wipe the memory card and just drag new one over

P.S ... i never realised till after i did all this that i could off just downloaded the tomtom home and updated the original maps for free :(

"I downloaded the maps from a site...."

Ummm... I suspect we may have the answer to your problem right there. Maps are keyed to individual unit serial numbers. If you tried to download a map from some 'odd' site on the net, it's not going to work successfully. You'll get the sort of message you received from your unit when you try.

What we need to do now is TRY to find your old map set on your PC. On your PC, all we can hope for is to undelete the files as Arno suggested because your PC won't have ever had any backup of the device or even the full map set that was available for update when the device was first purchased. If you can't QUICKLY (before the PC thinks it needs the space and nukes them permanently) undelete them, your only hope is to find the files on your father in law's machine. If nothing there, beg and grovel with support, but I'd not mention to them where I'd been trying to get those map files that you downloaded.

ah bugger think im screwed then as these was deleted stright from the device using right click and delete which doesnt send them to the recycle bin / or pc when deleted directly from an external source :(
