Tomtom One Third Edition Password Help

I have looked everywhere for help on this issue and I hope I don't look stupid, so I'll ask here.

I used Tomtom Home to create a 4-digit password on my device. When I try to update the device on Tomtom Home, my device is plugged into the computer and I turn it on, and then I enter the 4-digit password, and I never get teh message that asks if I want to connect to computer. Am I missing something

Start TOMTOM Home 1st.

Let it fully load.

Reset the TomTom (bottom of unit).

Let it reboot.

Plug it in.
