tomtom map store not open?

I note that the TomTom official map store is down for updating. I'm wondering if it is a decent store when it is working. Anyone been there? I'd like to get some additional maps other than Europe and N. America, etc. I googled tomtom maps but got results pointing me to bit torrent style sites and I am unsure about getting maps from those sources, if you know what I mean.
