Bad news for TomTom GPS users in France

Today I received this email:

Changes to your TomTom device.

Dear Customer,

As part of a national telecommunications modernization plan, French mobile operators (including Orange, SFR, and Bouygues Telecom) are beginning the complete shutdown of the 2G network.

Why this is important for your TomTom: Your device uses the 2G network via its integrated SIM card to receive real-time updates. In France, 2G connectivity will begin to disappear in March 2026 and will be completely phased out by the end of 2026. Your device will lose its integrated connection to real-time services such as TomTom Traffic, Speed Cameras, and more.

The good news: Your navigation system remains functional and will continue to receive regular map updates to ensure your navigation remains as accurate as ever. Stay connected: Enhance your driving experience
If you wish to continue accessing TomTom services, you will need to upgrade to one of our latest TomTom GPS devices. These new devices can connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth® wireless technology to continue enjoying real-time TomTom services such as Traffic and Speed Cameras.

We are offering a 25% discount until March 31, 2026, on TomTom.com for your upgrade.

Happy driving.

dommage....
Cordialement,
Sébastien

Why? Because the end of mobile GPS systems is nigh.

TomTom is expanding its partnership with car manufacturers to equip vehicles across Europe with TomTom technology.
