So I’ve had this TomTom GO 720 for awhile, and all of a sudden sound stopped working, after the TomTom shut off, and something smelled burned, and it seems to sometimes freeze and restart on the splash screen when starting again. Trying to reinstall the software and even trying the drum reset doesn’t seem to fix the sound issue, however opening up the unit, doesn’t show any issues like broken connection, burned lines, etc (so unsure where the burned smell even came from, as the usb connector doesn’t look melted, burned, etc either). Reconnecting the speaker hasn’t fixed the issue either. Anything else I can do, and otherwise how likely is replacing the speaker itself will fix the issue? Additionally double checked audio output for both music and instructions is set to Internal Audio.

For the rest the TomTom unit itself works fine, as it charges, and the battery still works, I can connect it to tomtom home, Bluetooth hands free works just fine, it can still receive GPS signal, the charging led still works, etc

I am sure your problems will emanate from the burning smell so you need to investigate that first.

Yeah, someone lend me their charging brick, which caused that smell, so I don't smell it anymore using the dock, or my own cables and charging brick, but when opening the unit and inspecting the motherboard I don't see anything burned, blown, or anything, any suggestions of where to look that typically affects Audio? Suspect either the speaker got blown, or a fuse is blown on the motherboard itself

Also how do you check if the speaker is blown?

You can easily 'tickle' it with any 1.5V battery.
Ended up taking in the unit apart and "tickling it" with an modified aux cord, to test the speaker as I didn't have a 1.5V battery laying around, and it seems the speaker is indeed blown, so I guess that's good news, as that means the motherboard is most likely not at fault

Audio source, was just a phone, but even after I found a 1.5V battery, and "tickled" it, it still didn't seem to work, so guess I've got to replace the speaker, at the very least, unless more is fried that causes sound to not work
