TomTom classic- HELP

I'm the original owner of what TomTom is calling a "classic". It originally was called a "Tom Tom Go Plus". I called TomTom support and requested new maps. They told me they don't have any for this unit and basically told me to use the unit as a paper weight. I have all the original C.D.'s and this unit came out before TOMTOM HOME was available. I wanted to give this unit to my 17 year old son, who is a new driver. How can I get updated maps for this unit? It comes with a TomTom Go Card. Thanks for any help.

I too am the owner of an original Go Classic. (I weep at what I paid for it back then!) I can assure you that it will work with the latest firmware and maps. See this link re firmware:

You need to have the 'Home' program installed on your computer. Get it here:

When you connect your unit to the computer, it will offer you updates to the latest firmware v7.163. After that, you have the option of purchasing and downloading new maps.

Thanks for your quick response. Idownloaded TomTom Home but I cannot find the cable to connect my TomTom to the computer. My son thinks it is a mini usb to a regular usb. Is he correct?

I downloadedthe TomTom Home application, hooked up my Tom TOm, and clicked on Update. It gave me an error saying my serial number is invalid. The only option it gave me was to report to Tom TOm anonymously, which doesn't help at all lol. Any ideas?
