Tomtom Car Kit

When you plug in an audio cable to the car kit, music and voice instructions are played through the car stereo. Does anyone know why is it that phone calls do not route through the car stereo, and instead they will be heard through the car kit speaker?

The handsfree audio is fed to the device using Bluetooth, delete the pairing between the phone and the car kit and try it again with the audio lead plugged in to the iPhone audio output - Mike
