TomTom broke after I restored a backup?

I updated a new map via TomTom Home. It did not install correctly and broke my TomTom saying map wasn't compatible with my TomTom. (not even original maps)

After that... I restored a backup via TomTom home (I have 5 backups), but when I boot the TomTom... it shows a red cross now...
 
The Red X is a symptom that the unit can't find the operating system. Ususally a consequence of not disconnecting the unit properly from the computer before the information is written to thee flash drive.

See if the information here helps with the Red X issue
