I love my 550 for motorcycle navigation but I realise that one day it will fail or not be supported anymore so I'm looking at the "App" alternative - but will I be losing functionality I rely on?
Can anyone who uses the TomTom App confirm the following
1. can you import gpx or itn files created in MyRoute-App and containing 100's of waypoints so that the TomTom App follows the "route", not a "track" (i.e. whilst navigating you can skip waypoints, miss waypoints and it re-calculates etc)
2. can you "avoid closed roads" mid route and it will calculate a way round it
3. can you tap a waypoint mid route and go straight there, ignoring earlier waypoints
4. does it use offline maps or does it eat data all the time

Much appreciate any advice.

I've downloaded TomTom Maps and Traffic (free), do I need to upgrade to TomTom GO Expert to get the above?

1 Can GPX or ITN files be imported?
Answer: No.

2 Can you bypass closed roads while en route, and will the app calculate an alternative route?
If a road is closed, the app will avoid it.

3 Can a waypoint be selected while en route?
Answer: No.

4 Does it use offline maps?
Answer: No.

Thanks. So basically there's no TomTom phone app that could come even close to replacing my TomTom 550 :-(

There is the GO Expert app—a paid service costing €19.99 for 12 months—which offers some of the Rider's features.

I don't want to subscribe to TomTom GO Expert only to find out it DOESN'T do what I want. Can anyone who already has GO Expert confirm what features from my original post it does support.

Thanks

You can try the app for free for 7 days.
If the app does not meet your needs, you can cancel the subscription.

You will not have access to the same features as on your Rider 550.

In my message No. 2, I answered "no" to each of your questions.

If you own a motorcycle, the best option is to buy a GPS designed for motorcycles.

TomTom no longer manufacture a GPS designed for motorcycles. The 500\550 range was discontinued in 2024. That's why I'm looking at the Apps, but they are no replacement for the 500\550.
It seems like TomTom no longer consider motorcyclists in their products.

That's correct: TomTom no longer sells motorcycle GPS units on its website.

However, they remain available in stores or on sites like Amazon.

You can also opt for another brand, such as Garmin.

The Chigee units have numerous features beyond simple GPS, and they are designed/intended for motorcycles. Since TomTom has left the building, that's the way I plan to go. It's too bad, because the Rider 550 is a sturdy piece of hardware. The software has always been the weak point.

Car play and Android auto might not be all they are cracked up to be. I found that some of the app features are not available on Cp and Aa. I went to Garmin with Tomtom Go Expert as my backup.
