TomTom 1005 Battery Life

Morning, considering purchasing a 1005 live. Does the unsightly cable necessarily have to be attached permanently, or can it operate for a short journey without, relying on its own charge?

Depends what you define as 'short'.

The unit can run on battery (when new, maybe..........just maybe a couple of hours) but remember that the use of Live Services and Bluetooth connection to a phone, if desired, just drains the battery pretty quickly.

The battery life of the 1005 is supposed to be "up to 2 hours" according to the specs page: http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products/car-navigation/go-live-1005-europe/#tab:specifications

However, that's value is going to be under optimal conditions, low usage and from new!
