Go 920
I needed to update my 920 but I didn't have enough room on my sd card, so I backed up my 920 to my pc using TomTom Home, then placed a bigger sd card into my 920 and asked Home to restore. I received an error message saying it couldn't restore as the original card that it backed up from wasn't present.
I replaced the original card into my 920, and I still got the same error message.

I know I upgraded my card several years ago using this same method and everything was perfect. Is there anything that I'm doing wrong please?

Ps. I know I should have not used Home, but I've only just now joined your this forum and hadn't read your advice on this.

Also have to wonder if the firmware for this 920 was ever updated to handle larger then 2GB SD (SDHC) cards?

To the OP: Just to be SURE, what version firmware are you running on your device now?

See this link on backing up and restoring:

Well, with the larger sdhc card in the 920, you might try to manually copy the contents of the (Home) backed up file to the new card.

I thought about doing it manually, but when I went into the backup folder it had backups from 2012 as well so I wasn't too sure whether I should risk just copying the files backed up today.

I also see you've said SDHC card, mine is an HDXC card, does that make a difference?

I'm not sure what firmware I have, I'll have to check. It must take cards larger than 2gb as the old one is 8bg as we needed to install North American maps, which are huge!

Not familiar with "HDXC". Sure that isn't "SDXC"? If SDXC, I'm almost surprised it works. That's the latest iteration designed for >32GB cards, and I doubt that the last firmware for Nav2 devices understands the exFAT format.
If your firmware was working properly with 8GB, then you'll be good right on up to 32GB should that ever become necessary.

Thanks for all your help, and for the link. The card I bought was an SDXC, I typed the wrong letter in last night, but I have now purchased the correct card, found all the files that were copied yesterday and I'm manually copying them to the new card. Fingers crossed all goes well!

Thanks once again :)

Hi, I now have another problem. I need to update my firmware, and my maps, but it's telling me my memory is full and I have to remove my North America map, and other items, as it's trying to install everything on my internal memory. I didn't realise that my North America map was on the internal memory, and its that map that I need.
Can I copy that map to my sd card, and also, after I,ve updated the firmware how do I install other updates to my card. I haven't used the 920 since 2008, so I'm a bit out of practise.....obviously.

Sorry to keep asking questions.

When you go Change preferences > right > Switch map, what do you see?

When you connect to HOME, what does it tell you about maps?

I do not think that your 920 can take a SDXC card but the current Operating System may have changed that.

I believe the current system for your device should be 9.510. To check that, after powering up, keep your finger on the screen at the right hand bottom and your system number will be displayed right there.

HOME may want to update your device. Dismiss questions about backing up and let it update, the disconnect from the PC and reconnect again. Since your have not used your device there may be 2 - 3 consecutive updates offered until you are current.

Let us know what is happening.

You are correct, it doesn't take sdxc cards, so I purchased another one.
When I change maps it shows Europe and US, and by sticking at it i discovered that every file was duplicated on internal memory. I took the US map off the internal memory, and I've managed to update the firmware now, and I still have the US map on the card.
It's been very frustrating, but with everyone,s help I,m all sorted now.

Thank you to everyone who has answered my.questions.

Congratulations for our perseverance but now, if everything is OK, take one final step and make a complete back up of the internal and the SD card to save.

I didn't think about backing it up, that's a really good advice, thanks.
I'll back it up following the instructions from the link that was posted for me.
