third party subscriptions?

I was looking to get a set of French maps for my xl, but at £39 this seemed a bit steep, so I've decided to look at getting a seperate tomtom for my wife and get Europe maps built in.
With voice control and blue tooth, the Via model looks appealing, but I'm put off by the need to spend £20 a year on speed camera subscriptions. There seem to be quite a few listings on fleabay for cheap 2 yr speed camera subscriptions. Are these any good?

I believe you'd be better off working with an outfit like PocketGPSWorld for speed cameras in Europe. More up to date than TomTom's own list.
