Start 60
This forum has been so helpful, to this aged driver, in the past that I'm hoping more help will be found. I'm afraid it needs some explanantion which I'll try to keep short.

I bought my first Start 60 many (10+?) years ago and soon decided that it was the one for me and I became familiar with its use. Perhaps I shouldn't mention this, but, I subscribe to a third party speed camera database and have always been able to upload their updated files using "Manage Community content".

The the unit recently developed the, seemingly well known, problem of randomly entering the main menu or even offering to steer me home. I tried the recommended thing of cleaning round the bezel but it still does it. I had looked a friend's modern Tomtom and found the interface so different that I felt it would be difficult to adapt (typical symptom of an over 80 year old!).

So I looked to buy a used Start 60 and stay on familiar territory. The snag is that the seller had updated to the latest version 25.100.0001.311 and I'm no longer in a familiar space. It seems I can't regress to an earlier application version so I'm just going to have to adapt. I'm reading the manual (v17.1) but I don't think that's the right version because it says the SD card slot is under the mount and on mine it's on the bottom edge, if there is a later version of the guide could I have a link please?

My immediate problem is that I want to upload the POI data and can't. There is no option the "manage community content" when I right click the symbol in the system tray (Windows) in MyDrive Connect.

Any help with this or indeed any other ideas to help in my transition from old to new would be very gratefully received. Thanks.

Regards,

David

Thanks, Willy, The manual you link to doesn't match the display on my device but I'll study it. MyDrive Connect shows "Connected" and offers an update (charging points) and if I connect to my old Start60 I do see the option to "Manage Community Content" does this clarify or confuse?

First letters are VE

Can no longer add POIs? Sounds like negative progress to me... have a you a simple link to show how via Map-Tomtom please? Sorry to be an old duffer,

I've just converted to Via 135 starting serial number BP.
i have been a member of a GPS db that issues new speed camera info every month.
The BP has free European map updates so suites me

Hello again, I’m reopening this thread because I still can’t understand what’s going on and/or what I am doing wrongly.

An update; the chap who sold me the latest Start 60 had updated the software as well as the maps (all in good faith) but then I found it totally different from what I had used in the past. We discussed this and agreed that an older version of the application would restore matters and he, being an all-time good egg, agreed to swap mine with 2025 application to one he had with the 2028 version (this was the date of my old but faulty device).

It arrived with: App 18.103.0020.311 (0) (08/05/2018) but it is just the same as the one I returned!
If you are still reading I think you’ll see what I mean with the pix of the old and new versions.

Why am I a Luddite who refuses to accept the “latest and greatest”? I find the old display much clearer than the new. After 12+ years of using the older style it has become intuitive and I find the old menu much simpler, I tap “Navigate to” and then usually choose a destination I have already loaded as a favourite. I see no need to plan a route, I just want to go from present position to destination.

Further, as mentioned earlier, with the old system I have the option to “Manage content”.

So, is there a way that I can make my new acquisition work in the same way as the one I have learned to know and love?

Sorry that’s a bit long-winded but I know this is the best place to get help from some real experts. Thanks in advance.

David

Hi
Before, you had the 2012 Start 60 (the first two photos), now you have the new Start 60 (the last two photos) which have the same name as the old 2012 Start 60.
On this new Start, you can't manage content like your old model.

So, it's a hardware version rather than software, I noticed some changes such as the power switch and cable socket were different ...
Thanks for that.

We've told TomTom before that re-using model names is a horrible idea, but they've done so several times over the years. Sorry you got caught up in that.

Agreed, Haven't I seen a Start 62 or similar? An incremental version name would save a lot of confusion. I still prefer my old units, the display is clearer and I can mange content ...
Thanks for your thoughts.

Start 62, same problem, you can't manage content like you did with your old Start.
You can still add content via Map-TomTom without the custom icons.

Finding a GPS like your old GPS must be very difficult.
