Software development for go720

Hello, im using tt go720 and i would like to do some small software for that. Ive never write software for such a device, but i found that there is linux-based system and in linux i have a little experience in creating software. So i have a question - is there existing something like development-environment for tt? Like VM-appliance with tt emulation and gcc and all needed stuff for that?

TomTom used to provide a sdk developer's kit (is that what it's called?) to 3rd parties to enable creation of add-ons for the tomtom.

But, TT has ceased offering it and supporting 3rd party efforts with the introduction of firmware 8.

Some developers are still persevering but it appears to be a difficult challenge.
