so how will this handle map updates? WIll it cost $99 everytime or will they do some sort of program like they have for the PND?

Well there is no mapshre. But Im sure with a new map, it will be handle the update as a new App(IPA) update.

Prior to the app release, TomTom had indicated there would be a method for map updates, tho no specifics were given. They've not been very forthcoming since the release, so it's impossible to tell if their plans have modified. Whatever they choose to do, maximizing profits will be the goal. If there's more money to be made from updates rather than a once a year (or more) application repurchase, that's the way they'll go IMO.

There are several features that they'll have to add before I buy and MapShare is one of them. Since you can do in app purchase they should be able to work something out for quarterly map updates the same as they do with the physical GPSs. If in app purchases can have updates you would just buy a 12 month update and then re-download it every quarter. At most they would only have to keep 5 active and any one time.

Hey guys, doing some work with TomTom on the iphone app, so I have the current official information regarding the maps.

The app comes loaded with the most recent (8.30) map which features all the latest updates, so there is no immediate need. While the app does not currently feature Map Share, it does again contain all the latest updates resulting from this.

Currently, TomTom is working on a solution to ensure drivers will always have access to the latest map version, however it is currently to early for specifics.

When new features (such as this) are released, they will send out press releases, but you can also get the latest info on their twitter handle @ClubTomTom

The latest maps are 8.35 now, so there's already a need......

Sorry, posted this in the other thread, but yes the new map is out. So I will revert to the second part part of the post that they are actively working to make sure the anyone that has the app will have access to the latest maps as quickly as possible.
