Smart Media System
Hello,
On my smart media system, I purchased the annual update for TomTom Smart LIVE services:
Problem: The update via direct activation by Internet (as in previous years), doesn't work:
Is-it because the Smart Media System's SIM card is on 2G/3G, and the internet connection is now on 4G ?
Thank you for your ideas, information, and... experiences !
Best regards from France
Jean-Max

Hello,
Very good communication with TomTom Support :)
They resolved my issue by reconnecting my Smart Media System device to my TomTom account.
(The Disconnect - Reconnect procedure using the Smart Media Connect PC software didn't work.)
LIVE services are now active for one year :)
Best regards from France
Jean-Max

Hello
On SMART MEDIA SYSTEM, the SIM card is only 4G.

Thanks for the INFO.
So, my problem of no update for TomTom Smart LIVE services after payment was only the loss of connection with my TomTom account, which was resolved solely by TomTom.

I had a doubt about the 4G Smart Media System SIM card because I received the following email in early July 2024 from Mercedes, which manages Smart in France :

"Termination of smart EQ control services beyond December 31, 2024"
The smart EQ control services operate exclusively with 2G, EDGE, GPRS, 3G, HSPA, and UMTS mobile phone networks.
The successive deactivation of 2G/3G mobile phone networks as part of the 4G/5G rollout results in considerable restrictions on the use of smart EQ control services.
We are therefore unfortunately forced to terminate the operation of "smart EQ control" as of December 31, 2024. "

Personal Note : Until December 31, 2024, my smart EQ control services worked fine with my SIM card.
So, is it truely 4G?

Thank you for your ideas, information, and... experiences.

The information I have.

Thanks Willy875 for your research :)

My Smart is from January 2018, so is the SIM already 4G?

I'm afraid Mercedes justified the abandonment of 2G/3G too early (which won't be effective in France until 2028!) to justify the discontinuation of its Smart EQ control service, which was very useful (charging time, tire pressure, location, starting the air conditioning, etc.).
Finally, my TomTom Smart Live services are working again, which is already good!

If you do a web search.

For France:

Orange will deactivate its 2G network at the end of 2025. SFR and Bouygues Telecom will do so a year later, while Free Mobile already has no 2G network.

Regarding 3G, Orange will also be the first operator to start the shutdown process at the end of 2028. SFR has also chosen the same date, while Bouygues Telecom has scheduled the end of 3G a year later. Unlike its rivals, Free Mobile has not yet announced a date for the shutdown of its 3G network.
