The rubber cover over the power button is disintegrating. Wondering what my options are. I'm in California.

TIA for any and all help.

Not many options.

If your Rider 550 is still under warranty, you can ask TomTom to repair it for free.

If your Rider 550 is no longer under warranty, you can ask TomTom to repair it for €105.

The other solution is to buy a new GPS.

One trick I've seen is to cover the GPS with a clear plastic bag when it's raining.

The unit is waaaaaay out of warranty.

The company is of no use. Told the chatbot I wanted a repair. It asked me to identify what was wrong and did so by presenting a fixed list of items --none of which applied-- and no option for "other." I had to choose an item or cancel, so I canceled.

Anyone know how the cover is attached? I'm thinking if it's with a fastener and I could find a junk unit I could strip the cover and install it on mine. If the cover uses glue then that idea wouldn't work.

Have you tried emailing me?

You have to remove the 8 screws and divide it in two and see on the button if it is easier to change the part of the shell where the button is located or to change only the plastic of the button.

The screws have what looks like a proprietary 6-lobe design. Have to see if my local hardware store has something with that head. Otherwise I figure I'll remove the rest of the cover as best I can, then glue a section of bicycle inner tube as a patch over the resulting opening.
