I have a Tom Tom Rider. When I pick a POI and a route to it,travel there. Then I select home and it takes me home via a different route. Why?

There can be a myriad of reasons, but most likely and not least of which may be the embedded traffic (speed) data for the potential routes out and home, and the routing method you have selected on your device (shortest, fastest, etc.). You'd be surprised what factors into the equation, especially if you select "Fastest".

If things are as they used to be, each road segment, and they can be quite short, is sliced and diced into 15 minute time slots by day of week. Each of the time slots for each of those segments is assigned an average speed. This is the data that the routing engine uses, among a few other important things (we won't talk about road class, which can add penalty time) to determine the route that best matches the routing style you have requested, especially when you select the fastest route as your preference. Add to that any detected traffic that is currently causing speeds to vary significantly from the norm, and you have yet another variable in the equation.

If you can give us the two points of your route, it would be interesting to look into this.

At the current firmware level of your Rider 40, what routing options are available to you beyond Shortest and Fastest these days? Some more recent models have a 'Fast' and 'Fastest' that further complicate things by avoiding residential streets.

The route is from my home, 113 Brookhaven Dr, Greenwood, SC to the Pet Smart in Anderson, SC and then from Pet Smart back Home. Leaving home at about 18:30 and leaving Pet Smart at about 20:30. I've driven this route four times and each time the routing is the same.
