TomTom Go 6200
Hi,

New member.. I use a GO6200 in the car for road trips only and plan my routes on the PC or sometimes an iPad. Where have the TomTom Road Trips gone. They are still in the side menu of my IOS app but cant find them in Plan.TomTom.com Although My Places are available. Only options available are:

My Items
Settings
TomTom labs

???

many thanks

Woolly

Hi

Map option, scroll down and then check Tomtom RoadTrips.
The routes are displayed in blue on the Plan-Tomtom map

Well that was easy, never saw the button! THANKS.

Although now I've been shown this and the box is ticked how to I access the list and descriptions of the 'trips' or do I just have to look for them (Blue) on the map view?

Yes, you have to look for the blue routes on the map.

I also couldn't find a list of available RoadTrips.

Shame, makes planning a bit more difficult. Still they are available (currently) in list form with a short description in the side bar on my iPad. I'll just have to start here find the route that interests me and then save it to my places so I can work on the laptop.

Slightly off topic but is there a way to group my saved My Place in folders, rather than have a big long list. currently I save them with a letter and sequential numbering to create logical groups

Yes, your 6200 was one of the very last devices TomTom made that supports custom POI files, which are user created 'groups' of individual locations. Hang onto it!

Are you familiar with the history of TomTom's *.ov2 files? Would you have any idea how to create one, or do we need to start from absolute scratch? The online TomTom planner site allows the user to upload a custom POI file in the *.ov2 file format, and the site in turn sends them as individual 'folders' of POI on the user's device when it connects to the TomTom cloud, rather than sending one giant list of 'favorites' (aka My Places).

Again very interesting. TomTom have been badgering me to upgrade and I was considering it, but as I only use it for road trips I held off and will definitely be keeping hold now.

I'm not familiar with the history of *.02 files, so have no idea how to create one so will need to start. from scratch! Is this something you can and or are happy to help with? Or even just point me in the direction of the best learning resource.

Unfortunately I have to go off line shortly and don't think I'll be back before Monday night and again off line completely Tues and Wednesday.

I have used Tyre loads of times with my Go 6200, and it was great. However when I tried to use it on my Go Superior it did not work. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Am very sorry to say, your GO 6200 was one of the last units made by TomTom to support custom POI files. They also abandoned this feature on their phone app towards the end of the beta period.

IMHO: Stupid decision on TomTom's part.

My use model REQUIRES custom POI functionality on a regular basis (a frequently - weekly - changing list of 1000+ favorites would be ZERO fun to manage, even if easy creation of that list would magically become possible), hence my preference for one of my old TomTom Bridge devices or my trusty GO 620 much of the time.

I hope you kept your 6200 for those times when you need that feature.

For those that wonder ... the last devices to support custom POI included:

GO x20, GO x200, GO Essential, GO Supreme, GO Premium and Premium X, and the GO Classic models whose serial numbers start with G3, G4 and G5.

The more recent models that do NOT support this feature include:

Discover, Expert (and Plus), Camper Max, Navigator, Superior, Exclusive, and the newer Classic models (so stupid, also, to re-use model names like this) whose serial numbers begin with A1 and A2, and anything else you might find out there that starts with A1 or A2.

If you're not sure what you own, reply with the first two characters of your device's serial number and we'll provide you with additional 'name' information.

I do agree with you regarding TomToms decision in scrapping custom POI’s
The only reason I bought the Superior was because the 6200 didn’t show Clean Air Zones, a step forward in one way, but a giant leap backwards as well.

I still have my 6200, just in case.

Yeah - that's a big problem for some folks: They need both LEZ and POI functionality in one device, and TomTom won't supply it. Sucks if you're into delivery or similar professions where LEZ exist and you've got large, regular sets of destinations.
