TomTom Model(s)
GO 5100 World
I recent purchased as Tomtom Go and it came very well packed as usual. Trying to dispose of the packaging in a correct manner I searched each item of packaging for guidance on recycling.

I noticed that the lower half of the plastic box holding the Tomtom was defined as category 8 and the lid as category a.
I am not 100% sure that I have the values correct as the symbols were very small, feint and thus hard to read.
Most information on the web deals with categories 1 to 7. Category 8 is defined as "containing lead" and "often used with batteries" and seems to have no relevance here. I cannot find any reference to category a!

Has anyone any idea what the categories 8 and a mean or did I read them incorrectly?

Happy New year to you all.

It is/was planned to add three new codes to the list:

8 - LLDPE (Linear Low-density Polyethylene).
9 - PLA (Polylactic acid)
10 - CTC (Cyclohexylenedimethylene Terephthalate
copolyesters)

@oldun I have just checked the packaging on my GO Discover and I agree with you the symbols are rather faint, try using a soft 2B pencil to highlight the ridges on both sides. But I can reassure you that they are actually 6 PS as per

You can also contact the support and tell them you want to recycle your device. They will generate a label to send it to repair center and recycle it. (they have process for that, and it will be free for you)

Do you know if they have any plan to recycle the millions of TomTom sport watches they have made useless.with their shameful decision?

You don't have a recycling center near your home?
Yes, of course.
But if TomTom decides to make millions of their devices rubbish, TomTom should face their decision's implications if they are truly aware of the environmental consequences of their actions.

May be, all the 'tomtom environmental consciousness' is no more than blah blah .. We will see

Do you think that sending millions of GPS to the Netherlands for recycling is environmentally friendly.

Of course, not.
As it is not to send each of them to our local recycling center till they are send to China or wherever they recycle ( if they actually do it)

I think that distributing the code to make that all these devices may remain in use in other platforms is the true environmentally sensitive action. But that does not seem to be the spirit of TomTom... unfortunately for the environment and for the owners of the devices

You have now posted 12 times to complain about the same matter. You are rightfully upset but, this is a user to user help forum. Do you really think you are helping other users.

Arno: This section is " off-topic "
So the themesto treat are not límited to help other users but to discuss any other topic.

Yes, I am upset with TomTom unrespectful attitude with its customers. And I think I have the right to complain for it here and anywhere, although TomTom does not like that people know it. This is not TomTom forum, isn't it?

Besides, the TomTom decision of making rubbish what it sold us, has many many sides. From the lack of consideration of TomTom towards its clientele, to the environmental impact of such decision or the reputation that any device that incorporates TomTom products is losing, just to make reference to someones. So, I think it is logical that the TomTom decision may appear in different discussions (How does TomRom help to recycle? Can we trust in the future in devices that incorporate TomTom products? Are TomTom products reliable?, etc)

I think that I keep the right to participate or open a discussion with other TomTom decision victims on a forum dedicated to share opinions, information, tricks, etc about TomTom products. Do I? Since TomTom decision is, in my opinion, relevant in some of the raised questions in the forum, I want to make explicit that it justifies my point of view.

Apologies for the length, but I needed to explain myself

Fine. But you needn't 'explain yourself' over and over here. Your point was made. We moderators don't hinder free discussion as long as the content is appropriate for a family oriented forum.

We DO clamp down on clutter here. That is our job.
