My daughter recently purchased a 2011 Renault Megane and the sat nav has the "No Maps Found" error. I took out the SD card and it can't be read on my computer which leads me to believe it corrupted. I went on to the Tom Tom website and purchased the single map but it won't download. When i contacted them, they want the serial number of the Sat Nav on the car - you can't get into this when the SD card is removed so no way of getting it? Can i just not format the original SD Card and download maps and put them into the car???

Maybe your SD card is faulty?

1/ Buy a blank SD of 8 GB maximum (format in FAT 32 if it is not new)
2/ You place it in the GPS.
3/ Turn on the carminat which will copy 2 files necessary for its recognition.
4/ Eject the card with the button provided and remove the card.
5/ You then go to your computer, insert the card and launch Tomtom Home
6/ you connect to your Tomtom Home account (email address + password) which you will associate with this card.
7/ Then on Tomtom home download the map you want to buy.

To find the serial number
go to screen 3 of the main menu and select Status and information
Or
in Tomtomhome: menu > help > system information

Many thanks Willie. Yes i'd say the current original Renault SD Card got corrupted at some stage.

The screen of the car won't let you access any of the folder apart from setting brightness with the SD card the way it is.

I have a spare card here so will format it and try it when i get home. Thanks for your help.

I was interested to read this thread, as I have a not disimilar issue re updating maps on an old Carminat.

I recently bought an old 2011 Megane in France for holiday use, but in which the maps appear never to have been updated (v.850.2782). These are for France only, but I need one or two surrounding countries so have opted for (and purchased) Western Europe, from which Tomtom Home said I could choose a zone to fit onto the existing 2GB SD card. However, when I put the card in my (Windows) PC and try to update, the Western Europe option is greyed-out, with the warning in in red that 'This item does not fit on your device'... which is already understood. Clicking for more info it tells me that 'This item does not work on your device. Therefore it cannot be installed.' It also sates at the bottom that 'This item needs to be downloaded.' However, there are none of the zone options listed, and just the BACK button to press.

Ideally, I wouild like to download new zone maps onto the existing card for simplicity, but can't see how Tomtom will enable this. Is there anything I can do manually here via file explorer, perhaps?

Willy875's workaround is an option I have noted, but Tomtom states on their page of acceptable SD cards for this unit that they only take max 8GB standard (presumably 'old-style' SD cards and not SDHC etc. I have found it impossible to source any size of old style SD either used or new anywhere in Europe or even China. Is this requirement in fact correct? Or do micro SDHC cards in an SD converter work perhaps???

And CharlieIRL, did you ever manage to get this to work OK ... and if so with what sort of SD please?

Thanks

Some even 16 GB SDHC works on Carminat.
Are you saying that the map has not been updated and is the device software up to date?

Sorry, I meant to post an update.
Yes i got sorted all thanks to what Willy875 had posted (Thank you very much).

I took an old SD Card out of a spare digital camera, formatted it, put it into the car and followed the steps listed above. Then i bought new maps from Tom Tom and installed them via "Tom Tom Home" app. Only problem is, even though I installed them all, the only language you can select is Australian!!

Still, its working perfect for her now so all good. Thanks again.

Thank you both. Sorry for delay; I've only just returned to France and as always find loads of things need sorting out as well as this.

Firstly, I think, CharlieIRL, you should have around 70 voices to choose from as standard via the card. Being flippant, mine even has one called 'Sean' which might sound promising perhaps?!

And Willy875, I think I will have to take a chance and get an SDHC to try. But what I was saying was that the map version as recorded everywhere (on the satnav and card files and System Information etc.) all state the last 850 version from around 2010/11, I believe. The software version I have only checked from the satnav as being 8843, but can't immediately find if this is current or not. Certainly Tomtom Home comes up with no software update proposals when I run it - only the unavailable maps as above.

8.843 is likely the last release that will occur for your device. That release dealt with the famous WRNO (Week Number RollOver) issue from back in April 2019 that caused many GPS devices to lose the ability to correctly compute date/time.

Thank you - and noted.

Just a final update and comment for future ref perhaps:

Basically, I guess that TT are little interested in bothering to update their occasionally inaccurate online published info relating to such old units as my 2010/11 Renault Carminat. This is frustrating because as a cautious person, I like to ensure that I am not going to do something terminal to my unit. However, no harm has been done, and no money wasted on SD cards that TT say don't work - although, to be fair they only say don't use them because they haven't tested them. So ...

As stated by others above, SDHC cards work fine, I used an inexpensive new 8GB one as I didn't need the extra space and still have loads spare. Following Willy875's concise version of TT's own instructions for utilising a new card, It immediately accepted Western Europe and the standard updating from scratch, plus all extras, went through without a hitch. (TT's own instructions were merely a bit over-elaborate in fact).

The only minor issue was that with no maps installed on a blank SD (in my unit at least) you cannot access the safe card eject button, so I merely turned everything off then removed the card manually. This didn't seem to destroy anything in any way!

Thanks to all for your assistance.
