question on copying device

i am reading on backing up tt
on tomtom home there is an icon called restore and backup your tt
and i am reading on this site people suggesting to use window explorer to back up the device
is there a difference between the 2 ?

Tomtom home has been known to have glitches from time to time. If you backup with IE you can then save your file anywhere you like on any media for future use. Do a full BU including any hidden files, then if you need to restore, it is easy and effective.
