Possible maybe future updates for free

I have a TomTom One (V.2) and called Customer Support regarding map software updates. The rep said that their goal is to offer free updates of some sort (not sure if it's OS without maps, possibly mapshare) "if it tests well" on the older products. This was all pretty vague but suggests something good may eventually come to those who wait (perhaps mid-Autumn).
