Hi,
I am accustomed to planning long trips, 1,000 to 3,000 miles using Microsoft?s, Streets and Trips. In other words I tell the program exactly what back roads I choose to take. I don?t let the program give me the ?Quickest or Shortest or even the Preferred Roads. I then print the directions and follow the instructions to my destination. What I am wondering is can I do the same thing with the software that comes with the TomTom 720? I want to be able to choose my own route ahead of time and then just listen to the directions as I drive along. I am not so much for getting from point A to point B as I am HOW I get from one point to the other.
Thanks,
John

pretty sure TomTom itinerary planning does just that.
here's a guide: http://www.gpsreview.net/tomtom-itinerary-planning/

you may want to look at TYRE too......I use it to plan my vacation routes. Works out very well for getting TT to take you per your route.

Ok, so I am very new to this GPS stuff, what is TYRE that you suggest I look at and where do I find it?
Thanks,
John

If you use Google Maps to plan your route, with way points and all, you can turn that into an .itn file with the help of this website: http://www.houghi.org/tomtom/

Unfortunately, Houghi's site hasn't worked for serveral weeks. I've always preferred Houghi to TYRE (Trace Your Route Everywhere). I'm hoping that it gets fixed, but now it returns an error when you paste a linked route from Google. And yes... I am sure to move the start/stop places slightly to generate lat/lons.

I just rechecked Houghi yesterday and it's still broken :(
