According to this announcement TomTom is not planning on releasing NavCore 8
for older models, like the GO Classic, GO?s x00 and x10 series, older ONE models
and the two RIDER models.

No surprise.

I had tried to do a clean install of 8.01 on it, but it did not activate any new features and also had some minor but annoying issues - so i deleted it.

They want to get everyone to upgrade to newer units - which are unfortunately not as well built - and the new 1/2 sized batteries suck.

There seems to be a new slant on this.

Mapping Material
TomTom have said that they will release an update to NavCore 7 for these customers, which will enable the use of mapping material of version 8. This means the users will still be able to update their maps to the most recent version, which is essential for a good navigational experience.

Did this ever happen?

Did this ever happen? I have a TomTom ONE 2nd edition, running:
App 7.903 (9183/091205) OS: 2344
GPS v1.21, boot 5.3029
Map: "USA_and_Canada" v665.1293

According to NavCore 8 updates TomTom-devices - News | yourTomTom only the later ONEs can update. Or is there a workaround?

I'm not really clear on the link between Navcore and maps - if I'm on Navcore 7.903, can I use a more updated map than the one I have?

Thanks!
B.

App 7.9 will read the 8xx series maps. This application is available for all Tomtom ONE/GO/RIDER models who are not being upgraded to app 8.x.

This means that any Tomtom (except Navigator and some in-dash devices) can read the latest maps.

To be clear, however, the new maps will have the updated roads and points of interest, but won't enable IQroutes or Advanced Lane Guidance on the earlier applications. You need app 8.2 or later to run these features.
