New User Questions, Please (XXL 540 TM)

Hello,

New user with a XXL 540 TM

a. Should probably be able to figure this out myself, but can't seem to.
Let's say I'm at Home, and call Home Point A.

I would like to see a proposed Route from B to C.
But, I am not presently at B or C.

Can I do this without actually being at one of these points ?
How, please ?

b. I recharged the battery using my USB port in my PC
Seems to have connected to the TomTom home page automatically, and asked me if I want to download the latest.
So, I said yes, and it seemed to.

I now have:App vers 9.061.576030.2
and Map vers. 845.2670

Is this the Aug new update that I read about, in that in Aug they do their updates ?

Do I have the latest ?
If not, when is Aug. do they Post the new ones ?

It also implied that this was a one time (free) update.
Had a link to maps that have a cost associated with them.
But I have, supposedly lifetime Free map updates.

Can anyone explain this please ?
There site, IMHO, is not very clear or intuitive.

Advanced Planning option

You do not have the latest map. That is 870. The next one (875) is due for all models anytime from mid-August onwards. Certainly by the end of August. This forum will have an announcement of its release within hours of that taking place.

Advanced Planning Icon: Where ?

Hate to appear dumber withthis than I am, but cannot find any icon for "Advanced Planning"

Where (exactly) would it be for my model, the XXL 540 TM ?

Go into "Prepare Route" on the Main Menu (2nd page). From there, first do "Depart from," then "Pick a destination."

Yeah... it used to be called "Advance Planning [A-B]" (not "Advanced" by the way), but it got renamed "Prepare route" and then renamed again to "Plan route" (This was in TomTom's mad drive to stop using "complicated" words or words of more than one syllable...)

There's still a little "A-B" on the icon though.

Not sure where you got the idea that TomTom "do their updates in August" though....
They release software updates whenever they feel like it, and they release new map versions four times a year (one of which *is* usually in August, admittedly).
