Wily875,
Are you simply defining the life of the device by it's ability to receive map updates - and all the recurring updates - Traffic Cameras, etc - which are layered on that?
Is that 'IT' as far as you are concerned? That is not, and never will be, my definition, and I think that is simplistic and unhelpful.
I have reported problems with the software - notably Bluetooth (I'm sure that there is more lurking, but we don't know) - which they have acknowledged, but have made no indication that this will ever be fixed, and if so, when a software release will be made to address this, or stated as a 'Known Defect' which will not be addressed, or called 'Life' on the device (as many TomTom devices have been) as a result.
I am not talking about functional 'Upgrades' - my mistake. I am talking about 'updates' - fixing core issues in the *total* software on the device, *and* the interaction of the device with the 'Back End' services.
The Premium was only launched in 2019, so it is only c.7 years old, and there will be many devices younger than that. Probably up to c.2022 (not clearly stated that I can find)
TomTom themselves say this:
www.tomtom.com
'...It has become clear that some of our older generation navigation devices do not have sufficient resources to run the newest maps
and software available...' (my emphasis)
So whilst the Premium X is
clearly currently getting map updates and layers (
01/03/2026!) is it
not capable of taking a software upgrade? They're not saying...
This is not, IMO, just about the maps and the layers on that, it is about the totality of the software on the device and it's usability.
Thanks
