I have just bought a Tom by TomTom and it appears that it will only work by giving warnings of speed cameras etc if the location settings for the app are set to always. This creates a substantial battery drain and seems unnecessary if the Tom knows when it is on the move. Is this a move by Big Brother or poor programming?
The support AI answer is: The app requires 'Always' location access to deliver live traffic updates and alerts to Tom, even when the app is running in the background.
This ensures Tom receives real-time information whenever it is connected, not just when the app is open and active.
Location data is only used for updates when Tom is connected.
So if you are nowhere near the car, there is no requirement for the app to have location set to always is my thinking or perhaps it is too difficult for IOS to handle 'only whilst using.'
Thanks Willy. That I realise but the phone is still having location set to always which presumably causes the extra battery drain and is still sharing my phone location even when nowhere near Tom.
Thanks again Willy. Can you confirm that the TomTom App is not tracking my location even if I am nowhere near Tom even when the app is in the background.
My TomTom is always connected to the power supply via the car cigarette lighter socket. When the car is switched off the socket no longer delivers power. The device senses the the power supply has stopped and automatically shuts down. Hence the battery never runs out since it always charges when the car is running. The feature can be switched on in settings.
