New Map Installation question

Has anyone ever updated their TomTom with a new map version? I found this on TomTom's Q & A page and thought it was interesting.

"Will my Favorites still be there after I install the update?
No. TomTom Favorites are stored in the file mapsettings.cfg. This file is located inside the folder of the name of your map (example: "North America map"). If you purchase and install a new map, your favorites will be lost. Be sure to save a back-up of your Favorites by copying this file to the new map folder on your device."

My question now is, will I lose my custom POI's as well? I've spent a good bit of time marking my custom POI's and I don't want to lose them with this upgrade. What file(s) will I need to keep in order to save my custom POI's?
It sounds like any files located in the "North America Map" folder will be erased with the update.

From what I know, you have to save or move your POIs from your folder to the new folder with the new map. You can also save all files in your North America or USA and Canada folder into your documents(or other folder you desire). When you have the new map update, paste the files into the new map folder.
