TomTom Model(s)
Tomtom GO for Android
Per cnet, Tomtom has submitted an app update that includes the addition of TTS, lane guidance, reality view, and safety cameras.

Tomtom told cnet the update (once approved by apple) will be free to existing app owners, and the new app will sell for the same $99 when purchased new.

I'm currently doing some work with TomTom and wanted to mention that the new upgrade will also include a new map update, an in-app iPod player control and a 'Help Me' menu which locates and gives directions to the nearest emergency services.

Just keep an eye on the app store or the forum, some people have been receiving e-mails from TT which suggest 17th of this month for new maps for the PND units whether the same will apply to iPhone maps and application isn't known though - it's well worth waiting for though as it is a huge improvement on the earlier versions - Mike

Question to anyone who has been downloading updates:

App 1.0 = 8.150
App 1.1 = ???
App 1.2 = ???

My UK&ROI version is as follows:

The TomTom App is v1,2
App version is 8,150 (462780)
Map is v835,2510

New App Questions

I have 2 questions about the new app.

1. I can't seem to get the voice to say anything but "turn left", not "turn left on Main Street"
2. How can I adjust the volume of the voice? If I am listening to music loud threw my car's speakers and a direction comes through the speakers, it is just as loud, I can't figure out how to adjust the voice volume.

i downloaded last night. Will test it out in Canadian streets and see if there's any diffs and report back. I'm pleasantly suprised to see an update out so soon. It looks like mobile phone GPS is the way to go as we get faster map updates.

To adjust the volume levels set the iPOD player going then launch TomTom, with the Nav app showing the main Nav screen tap the bottom center of the display, to adjust the music volume tap the music symbol on the right and slide the volume control to the required level. To set the Nav instruction volume tap the lips sign on the left and while the device is actually issuing a Nav instruction adjust the slider to the required level.
Once these levels have been set the device will auto switch between the two levels as required, in use it's quite effective although personally I would prefer the music to go to a lower volume rather than pause the iPOD play back - Mike
Edit to add, for the software to read out road names make sure you have a computer voice selected otherwise you will only get basic spoken instructions, adjacent to each voice name that supports the text to speech is a mention of computer voice - Mike

It looks like mobile phone GPS is the way to go as we get faster map updates.

The "updated map" for the iPhone is actually the same map offered to and used by the PND owners the past three months. Within another week or so, the current iPhone map will be our "old" one.:)

The map version might be specific to the platform, the only true way to spot a difference will be to find it by comparison. v835 iPhone might be the same as v835 on the PND range, then again it could also be the same as the v840 map for the PND only TomTom would know the answer unless someone can spot similarity from the actual map content.
The built in POI content is very sub standard and needs work, if I get chance to type up my day out in London yesterday it will give you a good laugh! - Mike

Thanks Mike, a point I hadn't considered. Since the original iPhone map was designated 8.15, some of us assumed it was 1st qtr this year and based on their normal naming convention. And since no 8.25 was offered for the iPhone, it makes sense that they're following the same map designations whether pnd or mobile. But you're correct, it's possible they decided to name them differently.
