I currently have a TomTom Rider 550 on my motorcycle using the mounting kit provided by TomTom. The one thing I don't like about that RAM mount is the length of the mounting arm. Is anyone using any other mounting system to attach the Rider to their motorcycle that might have a lower profile?

Have you looked at the RAM site for alternative mount configurations? Their mounting methods are cross-compatible.

I am thinking of trying this single socket arm:

With this handlebar mount base:

I just don't know if the plate on the single socket arm is the same hole configuration as the plate that comes standard with the 550.

Not clear what you mean about the hole configuration. It's the ball size that matters, if I understand your plan correctly.
That's a 1" "B size" ball you're showing from Amazon, and is designed to fit into an existing RAM coupler. Check the one for your existing 550 mount .. it may be the 9/16" "A size". Can't recall from memory.
