My new (4 months old ) Via 52 tells me prior to an island that I have to turn but does not say what lane I need until I am almost on the island which frequently leaves me in the wrong lane.
Is there any way to correct this?

When you say 'island', do you mean a traffic circle? Is it describing a lane, or is it describing an 'exit' number (e.g., "Take the second exit")?
Here in NAM, it says things a little differently, I think. Here, we might hear "Go around the rotary, take the second exit" or similar.

You may call it a traffic circle, in the UK we call it an island.
When I am about 300 yards away it tells me that "at the next island turn" then when I am a few yards from the island/circle it then tells the correct outlet number, i.e. "take the 3rd exit " however, by that time I have had to commit to a lane, possibly the wrong lane.
My previous go 520 used to tell me the outlet at 300 yards then again at the island.
This needs correcting as it could easily cause a crash.

Cannot copy as I do not have such a device.

Do you only drive by audible instructions only?
If yes, if a turn is announced have a glance at the device, the NIP, 'Next Instruction Picture', at the top will show whether it will turn left or right.

Yes I pretty much drive by instructions only, however your advice will not help me get in the correct lane prior to the island. What is needed is a clear instruction on which exit is to be taken to be given prior to the island as it was on my old Tomtom, instead of just "turn right at the island", then when you are actually a few yards from the island the exit number is stated. By which time you are probably in the wrong lane.

I am still a little lost. If there are 3 lanes in the roundabout and it says "Turn left 3rd exit" would you not take the centre lane and at the 1st move towards the left if traffic is heavy or at the 2nd in light traffic.

Hello Arno,
Yes you are correct!
However, my satnav tells me at 300 yards "turn at the next island". Then when I am almost on the island i.e. just a few yards which is too late for me to get into the correct lane it tells me the exit No I need.

David, the only thing I can suggest then is to stay in the first through lane from the left until you hear the announcement for your exit.

Your post did raise memories of my first trip to the UK, before GPS.
Thrice around Nelson Column, finding out that Peter Sellers was no comedian but acting from first hand experience.

Chuckling @ Arno,
Showing your age now my friend, Peter Sellers died in 1980, my dad told me about him (Joking)

Ever heard of talkies, David, it's dem moving pictures, right!

Got news for you, David, PBS (US public TV/radio) has been showing re runs of 'Are You Being Served?', 'Yes, Minister' and 'As Time Goes By' for a good 30 seasons.

That said, the incidence in question did happened in the late summer of 1979.
First visit with a GPS, in 2008, the GO 930 only twice gave a wrong direction in over 3000 miles in the UK and Eire.

Don't let him fool you, David. Arno was born before they had shipboard clocks accurate enough to figure out longitude.
