Today I was offered an update to the application on my 140S to 8.414 - it failed.

As far as I can see it could not update the helpme\other\trafficrules\index_en.html file complaining of corrupt filename or directory. The same problem occurs using wndows explorer outside of tomtom home. I am using Windows XPPro SP3. I could not update the index_en.html file because the index_en-us.html file exists.

I tried starting with the directory empty - no good. I tried deleting the index_en-us.html file - update failed.

Have others suceeded? Anybody know why 8.414 was released?

If DHN's fix doesn't work, then you can try the following:

1st attempt:
1) close HOME
2) do start->run chkdsk z: /f (where z is the drive letter of the Tomtom)
3) try again to delete the file.

if that doesn't work:
1) close HOME
2) set windows to show hidden/system files
3) copy everything from the tomtom drive to your hard drive
4) format the tomtom
5) copy everything back from the hard drive to the Tomtom
6) try to delete the file

After the above steps you should be able to upgrade.

OK.. Thank you
I did a properties->tools->error-check on the 140s. I included both fix errors and scan for bad sectors.
No errors were reported but doing the application update again (including another download) was successful!
