installing maps on SD card

 I recently moved to Itlay and purchased a CD with European maps. I have a TomTom One with SD card capability but can't figure out how to get the Tom Tom to recognize it. Do I first need to back-up and clean out the memory of the Tom Tom itself, then insert the card and then load in the software and maps? Also I think it only works with the basic SD card right?

first and very important....back up your entire unit to a folder you can find on your computer. use a file manager that can see system files and copy everything.

then simply copy the contents of that folder onto the sd card.

the unit needs the operating system on the card before it can run when the card is in the slot. no need to remove anything from the tomtom's internal memory. when the card is in, it'll run from the card, otherwise it'll run from the internal memory.

and yes, a basic non sdhc card. get a 2meg card.
