I Got it working again!!!! woot but now I lost my maps :/

Got My TomTom ONe XL (or rather my mom's) working again and now its great because I am using the nav 7 software , however Tom Tom Home backed up my maps , but now it says the device does not support backups and wont let me install the maps that we paid for (2007 maps) so what do I do now?

Try using Explorer to move to the folder for the backup.

It's probably in this location:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Backup\GO\Backup01\Storage\USA_and_Canada.

If so, make sure there is a folder on the unit named EXACTLY the same (USA_and_Canada) and copy all the files from the computer into that folder on the unit.

If that works...........

Make another full backup of your unit's contents BUT do it with Explorer, not Home.
