Hi All
I have the 5100 & the 6100 devices.
How can I export 'My places' to a file and later again reimport it , if needed. ?
This way I know even if my devices get lost , broken etc , the file is secure somewhere on my drive (PC, NAS, Cloud etc) and I can revert back to 'My places' again in the future ?

Thanks in advance

It depends upon whether you refer to POI lists or Favorites.
POI lists can't be recovered, but Favorites can.

If you will be sure to sync your devices to the MyDrive web cloud ( https://mydrive.tomtom.com ) then it is possible to download Favorites (it will download as a compressed *.gz file with a *.json inside) and with a 3rd party tool, recover them from the *.json file.

The 3rd party tool is found here https://chbworld.net/software/tomtompoi.html

This tool is used to directly open the *.gz file that you downloaded from TomTom, and extracts your favorites from that file. You can then save all of the favorites that you would like to an *.ov2 file. It's very convenient. You can call the *.ov2 file _Favorites. The underscore keeps it right at the top of the MyPlaces POI list.

You can download your information from the MyDrive site by going here in the menu system:

Great stuff !
my only clam that remains now is : can this *MyDrive.json.gz file be reimported again ''as-it-is'' into a new TT device ?
is there any 'import' facility directly for this file into a TT.( I am presuming not & the above is the only way around). Just confirming ..
Thx.!

Post edit : just for the records, anyone else bumps into that german site[The 3rd party tool] , it goes like this:

Go to https://mydrive.tomtom.com, log in there, and download the somewhat hidden dump file. You can find it on the left-hand menu under Settings → MyDrive → Download MyDrive Data. Menu with download link Menu in MyDrive with download link Now, start my small tool and load the dump file on the left. Optionally, load an existing POI file on the right. Mark the created locations and copy them to the POI file (if none has been loaded yet, a new one can be created). Save the POI file. If you have several, simply reload an existing one and add locations again. Finally, upload the updated POI files to MyDrive and optionally delete the locations converted to POI.

Unfortunately, I haven't found an API for MyDrive yet, and you have to upload and download with the browser, but it works well for me.

If you have any further requests, just let me know. I am happy to add more languages if someone offers to translate the few texts."

No, the .gz file can't be imported anywhere. You must first use the tool at https://chbworld.net/software/tomtompoi.html to process the *.gz file, which in turn will turn allow you to save the contents as an *.ov2 (TomTom POI file). You can send *.ov2 POI files to your devices using the mydrive.tomtom.com site using the "Import POI" feature. Saving the POI here will make it available to any of your devices that share the same account login as you used for mydrive.tomtom.com site.

As I say, I name my file _Favorites.ov2 because that underscore keeps that list right at the top on my TomTom devices.
