TomTom Model(s)
go
hallo, am newbie to tomtom and forum. unit about 5 years old, have only just decided to use it. no idea how to get to the stage where i can set gps co-ordinates. tried to use 'help' but search tells me none of the words gps, latitude, longitude -- are found. dont know how to get to the 'navigate to' stage, have spent ages fiddling with the thing, sick of it. i'll give it one more try then it goes in the bin with the loudest clang you ever heard.
so please help if you can and start from the very beginning.

appreciated. cheers, ben

What exact model do you have? See here to identify:

thanks but i tried that and all the other places but there isnt anything anywhere. have however discovered a manual on my old laptop which tells me Main Menu ---> navigate to---> hit the button to show the next screen ---> and there is the round blue balls for latitude/longitude.
so thanks, i found it myself. still dont know what model it is - would it be on the unit's software somewhere? - the manual is probably generic to cover many models.....
NOTE i have to say the customer support is pretty trashy - the unit is 5 years old but i should be able to download update for it but it doesnt look like it. the support telno i have doesnt work. VERY POOR SERVICE - it was bought as a present but i myself certainly wont go near tomtom by choice!

If you connect your device to the computer, can you see the contents of the device using Windows File Explorer? And are you saying there is no serial number on the bottom of the device?

thanks for replies
- cant see any serial numbers anywhere on the device itself
- here are pictures of power-up screeen and the main menu

Good, that's what I wanted to see.
Click on Settings and you should see left/right arrows in the margin.
Press one of them until you see an icon like a blue dot with a white "i" inside and the text "Me and my device".
Tap it and you should see an icon like a globe but with two hands instead of continents.
Tap it and make a picture of it or type what you see on lines 1, 2 and 3.

Having established that your device is a NAV3 type please be aware that it is not shown in Windows Explorer. The question was asked so we could identify the model if it was an older version.

Back to your thread starter question.
First off, the GPS will always know the polar coordinates of its current position if it is in an unobstructed area.
To select a destination by coordinates, on the Main screen tap "Drive to..."
You may have to tap the right margin arrow to get to the next screen where you should see a blue globe with the words Latitude Longitude underneath.
Once tapping that it should display the latitude of your current position.
Enter the one of your intended destination, then tap OK.
The Longitude screen wil come up, enter your data the same way.
Tap OK and a map with the pointer will show the location and the address will be displayed on the right. If that is correct, tap Select and it will ask you what type of route you want and it will plot it.

Your device may not have all the options of mine so some of the "next steps" may not be identical.
Try to plot a route and if not successful, let me know step by step what you were doing.
